For years, the way to make it in Miami music was to leave Miami. The singers, the producers, the engineers, the ones with a real shot packed up for LA, Atlanta, and New York, because that is where the access lived. The rooms, the introductions, the people who could say yes.
The talent was never the problem. Miami has always had that in surplus. What it did not have was a regular room where that talent and the industry could actually meet, without a gatekeeper at the door.
EQ is that room. Once a month at Ampersand Studios, independent artists sit across from working attorneys, A&Rs, managers, and engineers. They play unreleased music for the crowd. They ask the questions nobody usually lets them ask. And they leave with things they came in without.
